PCB rejects Sesa objections
The Goa State Pollution Control Board has rejected the objections raised by Sesa Goa in a case filed against it, for setting up a beneficiation plant without authorisation at Cudnem in Bicholim and has called both the complainants for a hearing in the matter on January 7, 2013.
Khemlo Sawant and Radha Karlo had complained to the board that Sesa Goa unauthorisedly set up its beneficiation plant in mining lease bearing TC No 41/51of R R Paingankar at Cudnem, Bicholim. The complainants accused Sesa Goa of setting up a plant without the consent of the leaseholders, without an approved mining plan which in turn was in violation of the consent to operate. The Board had earlier too called for a hearing, but Sesa Goa objected to the conduct of the hearing as the matter was already in the High Court and hence the GSPCB had no authority to conduct a hearing in the matter. However the Board has dismissed objections and has decided that it is within its rights to examine the allegations.
The hearing has now been fixed on January 07, 2013 at 3:30pm. [H]
