Permanent Goa Bazaar likely to be launched next yr: RDA min

Margao: Plans are afoot to make the rural development agency (RDA), a full-fledged department and to avail central government funds to create a permanent Goa Bazaar. The bazaar will be centrally located within Panaji or on the outskirts of the city, such as Merces. It will include an amphitheatre to showcase programmes organised by the directorate of art and culture. The Goa Bazaar is likely to be inaugurated in 2019, rural development minister Jayesh Salgaonkar told reporters recently. He also spoke of plans to begin a taluka bazaar in rural areas, which will have a marketplace with ample parking, toilet and refrigeration facilities for storing fish and vegetables. The plan is to have these facilities by the roadside and near the highways which will help visitors to drive in and make purchases, he said.”A proposal has been submitted with temporary space provided, as land has been identified at Guirim. The RDA receives central government funds of over Rs 10-15 crore towards various schemes, besides grants of Rs 10 lakh from National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD),” Salgaonkar said.
