PMC library shifted to Ponda Market Complex

Ponda: The shifting of the Ponda municipal library from the old building to the new premises at Ponda Market Complex is expected to bring new life to the area. The building has 130 shops which are lying vacant with perhaps a few shops in ground floor occupied. The general feeling is that perhaps with people visiting, some of the shops will be occupied improving the economic activity in the area. It may be recalled the market complex was constructed in 2011 for the vendors of the Ponda market to conduct business in. However, sadly with the exception of a few shops operating on the ground floor, the complex remained vacant. The vendors were reluctant to shift to this complex built at a cost of Rs 34 crore. Vendors felt it was not ideal and they would not get customers in this building.
According to Chairperson Radhika Naik, with the shifting of the library to the market complex, she hoped vendors would show interest in shifting to the building. [H]
