Police to take action on people moving in containment zone: Alina

Vasco: People moving about in the containment zone at Zuarinagar have become a headache for the government authorities which may lead to the spread of COVID-19 to other parts of the town.

As on Tuesday two positive cases of COVID-19 was reported in Sancoale village panchayat jurisdiction, wherein one case was found in the containment zone in Zuarinagar, while another positive case was reported in MES College locality. The health authorities have collected throat swabs of 123 persons who are relatives and those who were in close contact with the persons who tested positive earlier. The test reports are awaited.

Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha said that the state government has placed all necessary measures in the containment zone. She disclosed that sanitisation of the entire containment zone will be done in coordination with the deputy director of panchayat and Vasco fire personnel. “The essential supplies of groceries will be provided to the people. The responsibility of supplying the groceries will be handled by the department of civil supplies”,said Saldanha.

She further informed that barricades are placed in various parts of the containment zone in order to restrict the movement of people and vehicles in order to contain the spread of the disease.

Speaking over the movement of people in the containment zone, Saldanha said that the police are keeping a strict vigil and that they have been directed to take strict action against such people.

The Cortalim MLA also said that a mobile van will be made available in the containment zone to check or test people who are sick. [NT]
