Polytechnic student drowns in Mayem lake
A 19-year-old polytechnic student met a watery grave on Thursday in Mayem lake at Bicholim.
Samir Anant Kaskar from Banda in Maharastra was studying at the Government Polytechinic College in Mayem. On Thursday afternoon, he along with 15 other friends went to Mayem lake to celebrate their friend's birthday.
After the celebration all of them went back to the college but Kaskar and two other friends waited back to enjoy a swim in the lake.
When Kaskar jumped into the lake he did not surface so two of his friends shouted for help. A local, Kapil Mandrekar, who heard the cries went to his rescue and recovered Kaskar.
He was rushed to the PHC in Bicholim but was declared brought dead. PSI Razashad Shaikh conducted the panchanama and is further investigating the case. The body of the deceased has been sent to the Goa Medical College and Hospital ( GMC) in Bambolim. [TOI]
