Ponda cops to seek errant driver’s licence suspension

In a bid to check reckless driving, the Ponda police will seek suspension of the motor driving licence (MDL) of bus driver, Ganashyam Gaude, 32, a resident of Agapur-Durbhat in Ponda on Tuesday.
C L Patil, Ponda police inspector, said that the decision to suspend the licence was taken following major accidents including a fatal one within a period of less than a month by the same driver.
Gaude, driver of a private passenger bus had knocked down Sudarshan Tambetkar, 25, a native of Malvan-Maharashtra to death by driving his vehicle recklessly at Mangueshi by-pass road junction on February 8.
He fled from the accident spot without providing medical aid to the victim and not informing the police about the mishap. He, however, surrendered before police on February 9. Police had also released him on bail after his arrest.
Police had expected that the bus driver would drive carefully thereafter, however, he continued with reckless driving and again knocked down Praveen Chodankar, 32, a resident of Ecoxim-Bardez at Adanwada-Marcaim in Ponda on Saturday.
Chodankar was still undergoing treatment at Goa medical college (GMC) and hospital at Bambolim and his condition has remained critical, police said quoting doctors treating him. Police said Gaude has become habitual at reckless driving and is not fit to drive any vehicle.
He is presently facing charges under Sections 279 (rash and negligent driving), 338 (causing grievous hurt), 304-A (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Indian penal code (IPC) and Sections 134 – A & B of the Motor Vehicle Act (MVA) in the two cases. [TOI]
