Porvorim salon raided, 6 held

A Marathi actor and five others were arrested when Porvorim Police raided a salon in Porvorim on Thursday evening. Police also rescued five girls from the premises.
According to a member of the raiding party, the Marathi actor, Sachin Patil, and a friend had gone to the Lotus Spa salon when they were caught red-handed seeking “services” at the spa. Four staff members — three males and a woman — were also arrested in the connection.
The raid, which was conducted in the presence of an NGO, started at about 6.30 pm and ended around 9 pm.
Social activist, Auda Viegas, who was present at the site, stated that four girls are from Darjeeling and one from Maharashtra. “They were being used for immoral activities by the salon owner and the condition in which they were made to work was unhygienic,” stated Viegas.
“We also arrested four staff members in this connection. We are still in the process of investigations and I will be unable to provide further details,” said Porvorim PI Rahul Parab.
Police sources informed that when PI C L Patil had headed the Porvorim Police station, he had requested the Pilerne-Marra Panchayat to cancel the license of the salon.
"Despite the request, the panchayat renewed the license of the salon and this is the second instance that the salon has been raided," said a police source. [H]
