Pratima resigns as MMC deputy chief
Margao Municipal vice-chairperson Pratima Coutinho on Monday tendered her resignation from the post.
The resignation letter was submitted in the office of the Director of Municipal Administration, while a copy was entered in the Margao municipal office.
She told newsmen that she has quit the post as per the agreement entered into with ruling Councillors that she would step down from office after 11 months. “By resigning from office, i have honoured my word given to my ruling colleague councillors to step down after 11 months”, she said.
Pratima recalled that she and Municipal Chairperson Arthur D’silva were scheduled to step down from office after 11 months. “I have quit on moral grounds. It is for Arthur to take a call,” she said.
Meanwhile, all eyes are now on the 11 ruling Councillors as they are expected to meet on Tuesday to decide the fate of Chairperson Arthur D’Silva, who have declined to quit office on grounds he enjoys majority support in the Council.
What’s interesting to note is that the nine member group of Councillors are watching the developments in the ruling group, and have made it amply that they are yet to take a decision on the leadership issue plaguing the civic body. [H]
