Vasco: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that private sector players should come forward in investing in the tourism sector with innovative ideas and thoughts so that more and more tourists get attracted to the state.

Sawant was speaking to the media after inaugurating the upgraded ‘Abyss the Under World’, a marine aquarium with international design, owned by prominent businessman and industrialist Pradip Shet on Friday in the presence of Minister for Urban Development Milind Naik, Goa Tourism Development Corporation chairman Dayanand Sopte, Ravindra Bhavan Baina Vasco president Shashikant Parab, vice chairman of Goa State Urban Development Agency Leo Rodrigues, Mormugao municipal councilors

Murari Bandekar and Damu Kaskar, Priyanka Shet, Prathamesh Shet and others. The aquarium is based at Verna.

“Abyss the Under World at Verna is one step ahead in the tourism sector by a private entrepreneur. Shet has made available the aquarium in Goa which is nowhere in India”, said Sawant and further opined that the aquarium which contains a variety of fish from all over the world has definitely given a boost to the tourism industry in Goa.

“The fisheries department has taken the initiative in putting such types of aquarium in the interest of tourists especially those coming down to Goa, but unfortunately it has not happened in the past”, observed Sawant.

Congratulating and complementing Shet for his endeavour, Chief Minister Sawant has appealed to private players to come forward in investing in tourism sector. “Such types of projects would definitely help the state to attract large number of tourists in Goa”, he said.

The Chief Minister also maintained that tourists want new things in Goa. “Shet is doing a wonderful job in the tourism sector and he should apply on official website of GTDC to promote his aquarium”, said Sawant.

The Chief Minister remembered the former Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on his birth anniversary on Friday wherein the inauguration of the upgraded Abyss the Under World at Verna was named as ‘Mano-Day’ by Shet.

“Parrikar was always thought about new and innovative ideas. On the auspicious day, the state government has started Vigyan Mahotsav, laid a foundation stone at his Smriti sthal and also have laid a corner stone for setting up a garbage treatment plant at Cacora. Walking into the footsteps of Parrikar, industrialist Shet has set up a marine aquarium in a new design where he needs to be congratulated”, said Sawant. [NT]
