Probe ordered into allegation of untouchability in Pissurlem
A member of the National Commission for the Scheduled Castes has ordered a probe into an allegation of untouchability in Pissurlem in North Goa.
Former MP and member NCSC M Shivanna, who visited the district Collectorate, South, has also demanded two per cent reservation of seats for the SCs in the Panchayats, Municipalities and Zilla Panchayats.
He was in the district collectorate, this evening to review the situation in respect of atrocities on Scheduled Castes, directed the social welfare director to inquire in the allegations at Pissurlem.
Shivanna told newsmen after a meeting with the district Collector, N D Agrawal and district police chief Shekhar Prabhudessai, that he might also visit Pissurlem for first hand information on the allegation of untouchability.
Shivanna and his delegation will visit North Goa on Wednesday and will have a review meeting with the North district Collector and police officials on the situation in respect of scheduled castes.
District Collector, N D Agrawal said the review meeting is a normal exercise carried out by the National Commission for Scheduled Castes, to review the progress of cases of atrocities against members of the community in the district. [H]
