projects cannot be stalled on political grounds: MP
Saying there is no provision for the upkeep and maintenance of projects under the MPLAD scheme, South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha on Sunday urged the people to take care of developmental projects for the common good of the community.
He was speaking at Aquem on Sunday after inaugurating a children’s park as part of the development of open space in the presence of Margao MLA Digambar Kamat, MMC Chairperson Arthur D’Silva, Ward Councilor Damu Shirodkar, Parish Priest of St Sebastian Church, Fr Ligorinho D’Costa and others.
‘”Some of you might not have voted me in the elections. But, developmental projects are meant for the community and cannot be stalled on political grounds”, he said, while urging MMC Councilors to propose projects in their wards under the MPLAD scheme.
Replying to a suggestion by MMC Chairperson Arthur D’Silva to allocate a maintenance fund for the upkeep of MPLAD projects, Sardinha said there is no provision for a maintenance fund and urged people to take good care of projects in their locality.
The MP has suggested constitution of a committee of local people to look after the upkeep of the children’s park.
In his address, Kamat thanked Sardinha for executing the Rs 12.26 lakh project in Margao and called upon the people to make good use of the facilities. [H]
