Protesters confront school over lapses

Continuing with their protests, parents and students assembled outside the school in Vasco and demanded an explanation for the various lapses by school authorities before and after the sexual assault on the seven-year-old schoolgirl.
About 100 parents and students of the school assembled in the school premises and accused the school management and staff of gross negligence in ensuring the safety of their children.
Blaming the school staff for failing to immediately notify the police, the parents said the time that was wasted could have helped the accused to vanish.
They warned of continuing with their agitation till the accused is arrested and safety measures are put in place at the school.
The parents also regretted that the teachers had failed to offer solidarity to the parents of the victim after the heinous act.
“We know that the teachers are not criminals, but they should have been more sensitive to the issue and should have been with the parent during these painful moments. After all, many of these teachers are also parents themselves,” said Dr Anshu Tiwari, an aggrieved parent.
The parents demanded that the school management should immediately beef up security at the school and deploy lady CISF personnel inside the school premises, besides installing CCTVs.
The parents also urged the school management to provide photo identity cards to all the parents for safety reasons.
The parents then proceeded towards the office of the school management, where they protested outside the main gate.
Later, a four-member committee put forth their demands before the management and demanded the immediate arrest of the culprit, besides action against the headmistress and other staff for their negligence which had led to the Monday’s incident.
They also demanded that the school management should beef up security and install CCTV cameras in the school. [H]
