Push for 30% cut in syllabus for IX to XII Standards

Panaji: The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education on Monday placed a proposal before its Board of Studies as regards reducing 30 per cent syllabus of Classes from IX to XII, which comes under the purview of the Goa Board.

“The Board of Studies discussed the proposal today and is exploring the possibility of reducing the entire syllabus of these four classes by 30 per cent in view of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic,” Goa Board chairman Ramkrishna Samant said.

Indicating that such a decision would be reached at the next meeting of the Board of Studies to be convened soon, Samant said that in the event of truncating the syllabus, the related modalities would be worked out by the Board of Studies.

The students have already lost one-and-a-half month of the academic year 2020-21, and there is no indication from the government as regards reopening of schools in the near future. [NT]
