Ready to pay reasonable garbage fee, say hoteliers

The South Hotel & Restaurant Owners’ Association has told the Margao Municipal Council that the hoteliers are willing to pay for garbage collection provided the fees are reasonable and within the reach of the restaurant owners.
Association president C P Jaggi, however, said the hoteliers are opposed to any arbitrary fixation of garbage collection charges. “Charging around 300 per cent over the previous fees is not acceptable to our members”, he asserted.
He said hoteliers in A category are prepared to pay a fee of Rs 30 per day, while the Civic body can charge Rs 20 and Rs 10 respective from B and C category hotels.
The hoteliers expressed surprise that it is only in the case of hotels that the civic body is calculating the cost meticulously. “What about calculation of cost of services provided in the New market and Gandhi market in the form of cleaning etc. Why similar exercise of collecting cost pro-rate from vendors and shop keepers, who use these services is not followed?” he asked.
