Realign Tillari pipeline, reiterate Saligao farmers
Saligao farmers have once again demanded the re-alignment of the Tillari project pipeline passing through the cultivated paddy fields in the village.
In a memorandum to the land acquisition officer, the farmers demanded shifting of the Tillari project pipeline on one side of paddy fields or by the side of the Nullah.
The farmers have justified the demand for the re-alignment of the present pipeline as it passes through the cultivated paddy fields and the pipeline would make the fields uncultivable.
“Our main demand is re-alignment of the present pipeline route. We have not asked for cancellation of the project, but only sought re-alignment which and I feel the government should bow to wishes of farmers,” said Alex Rodrigues.
Meanwhile, the farmers have decided to approach the court of law to demand re-alignment and cancellation/stoppage of land acquisition process for the Tillari project pipe through the cultivate paddy fields.
“What is the urgency in laying the pipeline through the paddy fields which have been cultivated twice yearly? Are we trying to protect the paddy fields or trying to destroy them,” asked a farmer. [H]
