Reginaldo should quit ‘corrupt’ Congress and then talk: Parrikar

The Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Parrikar, lashed out at the Congress MLA of Curtorim, Mr Reginaldo Lourenco, saying he should  “first accept his guilt of  being in the corrupt party,” and added that to make statements against the BJP, he should leave the Congress party.
Addressing the gathering at the Adarsh hall, Margao, on the occasion of his birthday, Mr Parrikar said, “He came from Save Goa, joined Congress and  makes  some loose statements. He should first accept his guilt, and if he found his party corrupt, he should  leave it and  make statements.’’
Taking a dig at the former  PWD minister,  Mr Churchill Alemao,  Mr Parrikar  said that  the family had spend a lot of  money  for the election, but the people of  Goa shown them the doors.
“These people should not be given a chance again in politics,’’  Mr Parrikar lambasted Mr  Churchill Alemao stating that he comes to meet  him in Panaji and praises, but in Margao he makes  adverse statements.  “He is trying to fool the people of Salcete with all his political tricks, but they are wise enough  not to fall prey to it,’’ he added. The Chief Minister said that it was Congress leaders’ tendency to make such statements and therefore the people of the state had rejected them in the last election.
He pointed  out that that his statement was mis-interpreted  by the media.
“I had said that government would not  tolerate corruption and that it  would be zero tolerance to corruption,’’ but media interpreted it  wrongly, he added. Commenting on the mining issue, Mr Parrikar blamed the  erstwhile  government  for   forcing  mining crisis in the state with all illegalities.
“I closed down the mining  in Goa to bring in discipline,’’ he said wanting to know further as to who  backs  the  NGO who has gone to the  apex court in this regard. [NT]
