Release of Ben Antao's Bilingual Book
Sahitya Akademi award winning Konkani writer Damodar Mauzo, flanked by Mr Belarmino & Mrs Blasia Antao at the release function of Goa's first bilingual – Konkani-English – book of 10 short stories on December 1, 2012, at the Dr Francis Luis Gomes District Library in Navelim, Goa, India. The English side bears the title "A Madhouse in Goa and nine other stories" and the Konkani "Xirap ani her nnov kotha". The stories take the reader back in time… almost half-a-century ago… when Goans travelled in the crowded, creaking "caminhao" along dusty roads across villages, which were pristine. Goans, however, were perhaps not less naughty or gullible then than they are today. Writer Mauzo lauded Ben profusely for the high calibre of his literature and reviewed briefly the nine, very interesting stories, while Leonard Fernandes of Cinnamonteal Publishing (specialising in Print On Demand) thanked those present at the launch function. Everyone missed Ben, the author (economist, journalist, teacher), who lives in Canada.
