Rival private bus owners assn formed
A new association of private bus owners, Goa State Private Bus Owners' Association (GSPBOA), was inaugurated by chief minister ManoharParrikar in the presence of transport minister Ramkrishna 'Sudin' Dhavalikar on Thursday.
The new association will be a rival to the All-Goa Private Bus Owners' Association of which Congress spokesperson Sudip Tamankar is the general secretary. Purshottam Halarnkar is the president of the GSPBOA.
Addressing the gathering, Parrikar described the decision of the bus owners to form a "non-political organization" as a "good decision".
Stating that bus owners should support the government, Parrikar said, "If you spoil your relationship with the government, who will you go to for your demands? I would be happy if you point out mistakes of the government, which I am ready to rectify."
Parrikar advised the bus owners to verify the backgrounds of conductors from other states in view of the safety of women and children commuting in buses.
Parrikar requested Dhavalikar to consider the demands of bus owners and put them forward during the state Budget session.Subhash Sawant of the new association demanded an increase in subsidy for the purchase of new buses from 3 lakh to 5 lakh. The association memebrs also demanded an increase in the bus fare and common insurance for private bus owners. [TOI]
