Royal Goan Resort workers call off stir

The employees of Prestige Holiday (Royal Goan Resort), on Monday called off their 15 day long indefinite hunger strike following job assurance from Labour Minister Avertano Furtado. The employees are been assured that their issue would be resolved by January 5, 2013.
Around 300 employees of the resort went on indefinite hunger strike on December 10 protesting against the arbitrary termination of their services. The protestors were demanding immediate employment at the resort.
Furtado, who met the agitators at Azad Maidan, this afternoon, said that a meeting between Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and the hotel management has been called on January 5, where they would be asked to reinstate the employees on their job.
“Chief Minister has assured that all the workers would be resumed back on their duty,” he said.
While withdrawing the hunger strike, the employees have threatened to go on strike again, if government fails to come out with a conclusion by January 5.
They had alleged that newly joined managing director from Portuguese, Esperanca Particio, arbitrarily terminated the services of all 300 employees.  [H]
