Russian detained, released for acting as tourist guide

Panjim: A Russian was detained and released by the Tourist Security Force acting on a complaint that he was illegally operating as a tourist guide at Collem. The Russian national, identified as Misha, denied allegations stating he is on a business trip to Goa.A local had complained to the Tourism Department that Misha, once associated with travel agencies and charter companies, is now illegally operating as a guide. “He has been associated with travel and charter companies for about 12 to 15 years but now he is operating illegally,” the complainant alleged.
Misha was produced before Tourism Director Sanjeev Gauns Dessai on Wednesday where he denied all the charges against him.Speaking to media persons outside the office, Misha said he has been sent to Goa by a Russian company to monitor their business here. “I am not a guide. I work for a Russian company, get my salary there and pay my taxes to the Russian government. I am on a business visa to Goa to monitor their (company) work here,” he said.The department has granted him one day to submit the required documents. [H]
