President of Lokancho Adhar, Trajano D’Mello, has urged Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to sack Cabinet Minister for Women and Child Development Dilip Parulekar for discriminating on communal lines, while clearing the applications for Laadli Laxmi Scheme.
Speaking to media persons, D’Mello alleged that more preference is been given to Hindu girl child, while releasing amount under Laadli scheme. Basing his claim on information obtained under Right to Information Act, D’Mello said that of the total 592 beneficiaries of the Laadli scheme, who were awarded money in the first phase in September 2012, 484 were Hindus, 99 were Catholics and nine were Muslims.
Quoting RTI information, he further said that since September 4 till October 10, department received 1837 applications, out of which 1294 were from Hindus, 486 from Catholics, 56 from Muslims and one from others.
The numbers of applications cleared for the release of grants were 925, out of which 847 were Hindus, 56 Catholics, 21 Muslims and one from among others.
“It is now very clear that the discrimination is done with malafide intentions and is the highest form of injustice. I demand that the minister be immediately sacked since as such injustice has no place in a democracy,” D’Mello said.
Meanwhile, Parulekar, while addressing a press conference in the evening denied any injustice to the minority community. He has demanded documentary evidence from the D’Mello to substantiate his claims.
“Come to me with documents…How can I sanction the letters when nothing comes to me…How do we sanction letters without completing formalities and if we grant without following proper procedures, there will be further allegations,” he responded.  [H]
