Salcete Taluka emerged overall champions in 36th Primary and Middle School Sports Festival organized by DSYA at Ponda Sports Complex ground, Ponda.
In all, 1,100 boys and girls participated.
Viraj and Joyna were the fastest athletes in the primary section while R Abhinav and Rizma were the fastest in the middle school section.
Individual championships in athletics – U-10 boys: Kevin Kalsolkar (St Joseph Convent, Nagoa); U-10 girls: Reema Devji (Government Primary School, Maldiwada, Morjim); U-13 boys: R Abhinav (Navy Children School, Mormugao); U-13 girls: Sushmita Bandekar (St Joseph HS, Pernem).
Teams championships: U-10 boys: Salcete Taluka (15 points); U-10 girls: Ponda Taluka (13 points); U-13 boys: Mormugao Taluka (16 points); U-13 girls: Salcete Taluka (17 points). Kho-kho boys: Quepem; Kho-kho girls: Salcete; Kabaddi boys: Ponda; Kabaddi girls: Pernem; Football boys: Salcete; Football girls: Tiswadi.
Individual events — 50m boys: Viraj V Naik (Government Primary School Talapar – Pirna, Bardez); Sushant Patekar (Holy Rosary Convent HS, Nuvem, Salcete); Rudresh Gaonkar (Government Primary School Verlem, Netravali, Sanguem). 50m girls: Joyna M Surini (Government Primary School Tambdi Curti, Ponda), Reema V Devji (Government Primary School Maldiwada Morjim, Pernem), Sanjita Narvekar (Government Primary School Gawant Kumbaharjua, Tiswadi). 100m boys: R Abhinav (Navy Children School Dabolim, Mormugao); Sigmond Rodrigues (Pope John XXXIII HS, Quepem); Malcan Dias (St Theresas’s HS, St Estevem, Tiswadi). 100m girls: Rizma Fernandes (Presentation Convent Margao, Salcete), Sushmita Bandekar (St Joseph HS, Pernem); Neelam Salelkar (Honda HS Honda, Sattari).
V M Prabhudesai, Director of DSYA was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of Juliana Gurjao e Colaco, Deputy Director, Anant Raut Desai, Uday D Navelkar, Gurudas Bandodkar, Divakar V Kotkar, Avita Bandodkar, Yogesh A Parab, state sports organizer and others.
