Salgaocar win, Sporting Jrs held

A spectacular free kick from Pritam Singh was not enough for Sporting Clube de Goa Juniors as for the second match in succession they were pegged back  to draw 1-1 by Prayag United in a AIFF U-20 I-League football match at Jamshedpur, Thursday.
In the 31st minute, Sporting raced into the lead after Xavier Dias was wrestled to the ground on the edge of the box. From the resultant free-kick Pritam beautifully curled the ball into the back of the net.
Prayag’s reply was instant, as from the kick-off the ball was worked on to the right flank and Shane Temudo managed to clear it for a throw-in. From the throw-in, the ball was cast long into the danger area and eventually squared for Rajon Barman who applied the finishing touch to equalize for Prayag.
For the remaining of the half Sporting Goa were on the receiving end from a barrage of attacks, which forced custodian Subhajit Basu to be at his best to deny Prayag on three separate occasions.
In the second session, Sporting Goa put up a much bolder performance with Jyotesh Palkar and Charles Cardoz marshalling the defence and Pritam Singh spraying balls forward from the centre of midfield for Pandhari Chopdekar and Xavier.
In the closing stages, Binatone Singh, Jesus Estrocio and Vikram Singh were thrown into the attack as Sporting committed men forward for the winner, but it was not to be and in the end both teams had to be content with a point each.
Sporting have now collected two points from two matches. They will face Pune on Saturday. [H]
