Saligao Sporting trounce Vagator PY


Saligao Sporting Club trounced Vagator Parish Youth Sports Club 4-0 in the GFA’s Second Division League match played at Sangolda grounds, on Tuesday.
With today’s win, Saligao have four points from four matches while Vagator stay on three points from three matches.
Saligao Sporting played to a fine plan and had two good attempts at the goal, but Vagator keeper came to his team’s rescue to halt Naveed Shaikh and Ajay Diwadkar from scoring.
At the other end, Vagator too had a chance to take the lead, but Ryan D’Souza shot wide from close quarters.
Saligao finally broke the deadlock, in the 35th minute, through a superb volley by Ajay Diwadkar, 1-0.
In the 10th minute of the second half Vagator’s Stepelton Fernandes after getting hold of a loose ball just outside the penalty box, cut past a host of Saligao defenders and took a stiff grounder, which was collected by keeper Rohan Viegas.
Ajay Diwadkar had two more chances to further increase the lead, but failed to score.
Saligao were once again at their very best in the last quarter of the match as they hammered three more goals through Rohid Naik, Naveed Shaikh and Mario Crasto. [NT]
