Sancoale p’yat begins clearing garbage before deadline
Sancoale Panchayat on Monday began lifting garbage in its jurisdiction, in apparent compliance with the order of South Goa Collector to remove the garbage around the airport.
It may be recalled that the South Goa collector had fixed October 31, deadline to four panchayats – Sancoale, Chicalim, Velsao-Pale Bogmalo-Chicolna – to clear garbage within 10 kms of Dabolim airport to prevent bird hits, failing which he would proceed under Section 133 of CrPC against them.
Admitting that the garbage removal was in compliance of Collector’s order, Sancaole Sarpanch Narayan G Naik said all garbage in the village had been removed.
Naik also informed that he had placed security personnel at three places on two shifts for 15 days at the cost of Rs 24,000. “Thereafter, it is for the authorities to take a call since the panchayat will not be able to foot the bills,” Naik added.
Naik, however, was of the view that garbage at Zuari Nagar should have been removed by Zuari Holdings Limited, since the area is largely inhabited by its labour force, which was the cause of large-scale garbage. [H]
