Sangolda Lightning Sports Club drubbed United Club Telaulim 6-0 in the final phase of GFA Second Division play-off match played at Duler grounds, Mapusa, on Monday.
Sangolda who lost to Nagao Sporting club in their earlier outing, thus spoiling their chances of promotion into First Division League, were at their very best in today’s encounter, as they demolished the visitors, by scoring at regular intervals.
In the 15th minute Sangolda opened their floodgates through Yogesh Mayekar, who scored off a pass from Pundalik Parwar.
After Suraj Kauthankar’s shot was blocked by Telaulim keeper Sachin Yallapa Astekar, Chandan Govenkar dribbling past a couple of defenders, including the keeper in the 23rd minute, scored with a neat placement, 2-0.
Telaulim adapted to off side trap, which cost them dearly.
It was Telaulim keeper Sachin who came to his team’s rescue as he thwarted Chandan (twice) and Suraj in one-to-one situation.
In the entire first session, Sangolda keeper Prashant Gaonkar who played in the absence of keeper Washington Pereira was tested only once and he managed to block a hot -blooded shot by Micky Furtado.
However five minutes before the breather Yogesh Mayekar beating the off-side trap, netted his brace and the third goal for Sangolda, 3-0.
On crossing over, Sangolda’s hunger for goals did not end as they pumped in five more goals through Suraj Kauthankar, Yogesh Mayekar and Noel Viegas.
In the injury time, Telaulim brought some smiles on the faces of their supporters as Melvin Fiugeriedo scored the consolation goal to round off the score tally to 6-1. [NT]
