Sangolda drub Vaddy Merces 10-2

Sangolda Lightning Sports Club drubbed Vaddy Sports Club Merces 10-2 in the GFA’s Second Division play-off match at Duler grounds, on Wednesday.

After today’s win Sangolda qualified for the state play-off. Merces played their first match on the artificial turf and took a long time to adjust to the ground conditions. After initial probing for the first 15 minutes of the match, Sangolda’s Steven Fernandes opened the account with a blistering shot, beating Merces keeper Deeptesh Halanekar, 1-0. Steven Fernandes did the spadework in the 18th and 34th minute to set up Yogesh Mayekar, who scored a brace, 3-0.
Merces tried to keep the ball possession in the midfield through Govind Mahale and Atish Sawant, as Mahesh Naik and Amol Velimkar failed to get past the strong Sangolda defence.
In the last quarter, Umang Naik scored on entering the danger zone, while Suraj Kauthankar pumped in two more quick goals in the 44th and 45th minute, 6-0.
On crossing over, Merces Manager Luciano Fernandes replaced keeper Deeptesh, by bringing in Flobert Monteiro. But the keeper could do very little to stop Sangolda’s strikers from scoring at regular intervals. Yogesh Mayekar scored from the penalty spot, after he was brought down by Ramesh Priolkar in the danger zone to make it 7-0, with Pundalik Parwar netting in the eighth goal.
Merces had one good attempt at the rival goal in the 66th minute but a fierce shot by substitute Joe Pires, was superbly collected by keeper Washington Pereira. In the 74th and 82nd minute, substitute Subodh Naik and Suraj Kauthankar added two more goals, 10-0.
Merces’ captain Milton Negredo pumped in two goals in the 83rd and 90th minute to reduce the score to 10-2. [NT]
