Sangolda Lightning Sports Club continued their winning streak as they registered a 3-1 win over Saligao Sporting Club to secure full points in the GFA 2nd Division League match played at Sangolda grounds on Thursday. All the goals came in the first session of play.
Sangolda now move to nine points, while Saligao Sporting have one point from two matches.
Sangolda were once again at their very best when they took the lead in the 8th minute of play through Lloyd Mascarenhas whose long ranger, which was poorly collected by Saligao keeper Feliciano Sequeria, sailed into the nets.
Two minutes later Sangolda further consolidated their lead from a brilliant solo effort by Yogesh Mayekar. It did not take long for Sangolda to net their third goal, as Prashant Gaonkar’s shot from the penalty spot was blocked by Saligao keeper to find Lloyd, who slotted the ball into the goal, 3-0.
Never say die spirit saw Saligao make it 3-1 from a brilliant goal by Ajay Diwadkar.
On crossing over, Saligao were reduced to ten men as Vijay Shetye was sent-off by the referee for second yellow caution.
It was some outstanding keeping by keeper Feliciano who denied Yogesh Mayekar, Rahul, Chandan from further increasing their lead.
In the last quarter of the match Saligao too had a chance to net their second goal, but Ajay Diwadkar’s shot from close range was blocked by keeper Washington Pereira.
Meanwhile, Carmona SC and Fr Agnelo Y Club, Paroda played a 2-2 draw to split points at Curtorim grounds.
It was the Carmona team that went ahead in the 10th minute of play through a penalty goal scored by Desmond while the other goal was scored by Flaffy Fernandes in the second session for the Carmona team.
Fr Agnelo then moved fast and displaying fine skills on the ball coupled with accelerating moves levelled the score through Ramchandra Gaoncar who scored both the goals, finding the mark in each half of play.
Gaoncar had a golden chance to score a hat-trick with the opportunity coming to him in the dying minutes of the match by way of a penalty that was given in favour of his team. Gaoncar, however, shot the ball wide from the penalty spot. [NT]
