Sangolda villagers complain of poor gas supply

The issue of irregular supply of gas cylinders dominated the Sangolda Gram Sabha on Sunday.
Initiating the discussion, the villagers stated that the gas cylinders have become a major headache for them.
“Illiterate people find it very difficult to book cylinder on phone and even if it is it booked, they do not get the cylinders on time,” complained a resident.
“The panchayat should request the suppliers to fix a particular day for the supply of gas cylinders to the residents of Sangolda,” added the resident.
After discussions, a resolution was adopted that the panchayat should request the Bharat gas and HP gas dealers to supply gas cylinders on a fixed day.
Shamba Tuenkar said a resolution was adopted in the last Gram Sabha stating that the panchayat should request the government to construct a new panchayat Ghar having facilities like library, hall, etc, through Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation.
“The panchayat should take the assistance to Saligao MLA Dilip Parulekar and get this project approved at the earliest,” said Tuenkar.
Tuenker further stated that the panchayat should not encourage illegal constructions in the village and also businesses like massage parlours. “The villagers will oppose tooth and nail for such business activities,” warned Tuenkar.
Bhalchandra Naik said there are several unemployed youth in the village, but they are not aware of the self employment schemes of the State government. “The panchayat should organize a workshop through concerned government authorities for such unemployed youth,” added Naik.
Sarpanch Nilkant Mapsekar assured that he will request the Block Development Officer to organize such workshop for the benefit of the unemployed youth.
The issues of construction and repair of village roads and supply of water through tankers from public/private wells were also discussed in the Gram Sabha.
Earlier, Mapsekar welcomed the gathering, while Panchayat Secretary Peter Martins read the minutes of the Gram Sabha held on August 5. [H]
