Sardinha claims beef trade disruption is govt sponsored

Panjim: Against the backdrop of the beef shortage in the State, the Congress on Tuesday alleged that many cow vigilantes involved in stopping vehicles transporting meat from the neighbouring Karnataka were “sponsored by the government” and the move is “to satisfy their RSS bosses”.Addressing media persons, former Member of Parliament Francisco Sardinha questioned why cow vigilantes are stopping the trade, when the police are there to act against illegalities, if any.“Many of these cow vigilantes are sponsored by the State government to disturb the import of beef in the State,” he alleged.
He said that the cow vigilantes have began harassing beef suppliers despite imports from Karnataka being legal. “Government basically wants to satisfy their RSS bosses,” the former Chief Minister said.He advised the government to stop trying to satisfy their bosses in the Sangh and rather concentrate on issues faced by the common man. “We live in a secular country where one cannot dictate terms. No one can tell us what we should eat or what we should not,” Sardinha said. [H]
