SC Davorlim storm into semis


Sporting Club of Davorlim stormed into the semi-finals of Wilred Leisure Super Soccer after knocking out Nerul SC 3-1 in the quarter-final match played at DSYA grounds, Curtorim on Sunday.
Sporting Club’s Stanley Gomes, who is in great form, scored two goals in his team’s victory. His first goal came inside the first minute from the start of the game while he scored his second in the 17th minute. Agnelo Colaco was the provider to Stanley on both the occasions.
Davorlim’s other goal was scored by Wenson Figueredo in the 39th minute of the second session.
Nerul SC did give a good fight and were almost back into the game when they reduced the margin through Mukund Agwadkar but in the second session, Sporting sealed the match by going ahead 3-1.
Both the goalkeepers brought off smart saves for their respective teams. While Dnayneshwar Madgaocar stole the limelight in the first half for the Nerul team, it was the Davorlim keeper Sachin Astekar who denied Nerul strikers from finding the mark after they began to launch a series of attacks.
Davorlim now await the winners between St Anthjony’s SC, Colva and SSC, Loutolim. Meanwhile, Sao Jose de Areal also entered the semi-finals after registering a solitary-goal win against Sai Avatar, Anjuna in the quarter-finals played on Saturday.
The all-important goal was scored in the 47th minute of the second session when Shelton Dias found the mark beating Sai Avatar keeper Sandeep Gadekar.
Both the teams dished out a good brand of soccer and played a very fast match right from the start.
Sai Avatar tried their level best to restore parity but the Sao Jose de Areal keeper Luis Dias brought off spectacular saves.
Sao Jose de Areal now will meet the winners of Don Bosco Oratory and Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim. [NT]
