Schools and educational institutions will reopen today January 3, despite rumours that they would remain closed owing to a bandh call given by the protestors in Delhi demanding safer environment for women in public spaces, stricter punishment for rapists and greater sensitivity towards them.
Government officials denied that there was any official holiday declared, but maintained that if individual institutes wished to support the cause, they could declare a holiday. Until late evening, when contacted, several heads of schools and educational institutions denied that they were shutting down and that classes would continue as usual.
The All Goa Private Bus Owners Association too said it was up to the individual bus owners to decide.
“We have left it to the individual bus owners to observe a bandh if they so wish,” Sudip Tamhankar told Herald. [H]
