Seers of K’taka mutts oppose illicit liquor trade

Seers of different mutts from Karnataka have unanimously passed a resolution to step up their opposition to the illicit liquor trade liquor between Belgaum and Goa. About 600 seers had assembled in Belgaum to attend the two-day round table conference of dharmadhikaris to discuss impact of drug addiction and intoxication.

The conference that concluded late Sunday evening resolved to exert pressure on the Karnataka Excise Department to implement rules meant for liquor shops and bars that have been violating norms by selling illicit liquor and hooch from Goa to maximize their profit. It was also resolved to urge authorities to stop sale of liquor in villages with special reference to illicit liquor trade between Goa liquor and hooch in the bordering areas of Karnataka.[H]
