Selaulim water pipeline ruptured at Dabolim
The Selaulim water pipeline supplying water to Mormugao and Dabolim constituencies in the Mormugao taluka was ruptured by an excavator engaged in the construction work of the exit approach road close to the under construction new integrated terminal building of the Dabolim airport on Tuesday evening.
The repair work of the damaged mild steel (MS) pipeline, which is also coated with pre-stretch cement concrete, has been taken up on a war footing by the PWD and the PWD officials are hopeful of restoring the water supply to the affected areas in Mormugao and Dabolim constituencies late Tuesday night.
Speaking to this daily, the assistant engineer, PWD (water section), Vasco, Mr Vishwambhar Bhende, informed that the underground MS pipeline, supplying water to the Mormugao and Dabolim constituencies, was ruptured at around 6.30 p.m. by an excavator engaged in the construction work of the exit approach road of the new integrated terminal building of the Dabolim airport.
The construction work of the exit approach road for the new integrated terminal building has been taken up by the Consolidated Construction Consortium Ltd (CCCL), which is constructing the new integrated terminal building project of the Dabolim airport.
The PWD officials rushed to the site when they came to know about the broken underground water pipeline.
“The repair work of the ruptured 900 mm diameter water pipeline was taken up on a war footing and we are expecting to restore the water supply to the affected areas by late Tuesday night,” informed Mr Bhende.
He disclosed that the Headland-Sada, Bogda, Desterro localities in the Mormugao constituency and New Vaddem, Shantingar in the Dabolim constituency were affected due to
the rupturing of the pipeline. [NT]
