Sewage from starred hotel inundates fields in Majorda

Farmers from Majorda are up in arms over the rampant discharge of sewage and waste waters in the paddy fields and have blamed a starred hotel for the nuisance.

Agitated farmers told officials of the Goa State Pollution Control Board and Majorda Sarpanch, Moses Vaz, at an inspection, that they have been forced to stop cultivating the fields inundated by the waste waters.

They drew attention of the GSPCB officials to the fact that the hotel has laid pipes for the discharge of the waste in the fields and demanded action. “The nullah (paind) is meant for the storm water and not for the discharge of waste waters”, farmers told the officials.

The officials collected water samples from the fields to get it tested in its laboratory and told the farmers that the report would be submitted to the higher-ups.

Meanwhile, when newsmen questioned Majorda Sarpanch, Moses Vaz, over the grievances faced by the farmers, he said appropriate action will be initiated against the erring hotels based on the GSPCB report. “After the report is received, it would be placed before the panchayat body for necessary action”, he added.
