Shirodkar panel denied right to hold float parade

The district administration has rejected the permission sought by the Madgao Shigmotsav Samiti headed by Vasant Shirodkar to hold the float parade in Margao on April 7.
The application was rejected by Deputy Collector Surendra Naik on grounds that the parade planned by the Samiti would clash with the parade chalked out by the Madgao Shigmotsav Samiti headed by Damu Naik.
The Deputy Collector told Herald that his office has communicated the rejection of the application to the Samiti headed by Vasant Shirodkar. “The application for the permission to hold the Shigmo parade on April 7 in Margao was signed by Girish Chodankar, which stands rejected”, he said.
Replying to a question, he said there was no question of granting the application since the District Collector N D Agrawal had already granted permission to the Damu Naik headed Samiti to hold the parade in the city on April 7. Besides, he said the police had objected to the granting of the application on grounds that it would result in law and order since the organizers wanted to hold the parade on the same route, venue and time on April 7.
The Shirodkar backed Madgao Shigmotsav Samiti had sought permission from the Tourism Department as well as from the district authorities to hold the float parade in the city here on April 7, notwithstanding that the rival Samiti headed by Damu Naik had also fixed the float parade on the same day.
Though the administration has refused permission to hold the parade, the Shirodkar-backed Samiti will organise a two-day Shigmo program in the city. The Samiti had announced plans to hold the program at the Lohia Maidan. [H]
