Six bikes set afire at Calangute

In an incident of fire reported in Calangute on March 9, at around 1.30 a.m. an accused set fire to six parked motorcycles. The motorcycles were completely destroyed in the fire. Police suspect this case to be one of rivalry between rent a bike operators.

Calangute PI, Mr Nolasco Raposo, said that based on the CCTV footage and acting on a complaint by Mr Agnelo Sequeira, the police arrested one person who was charged under section 435 of IPC which is a bailable section. It is also learnt from police that these motorbikes were parked along the roadside and it may be due to this that they were set on fire.
The present panch member of Gaurawaddo ward, Mr Joseph Sequeira, informed that the residents, on the next day, approached the Calangute police in this regard and the police visited the site and conducted the panchanama.
He informed that the residents had planned to hold a morcha on Monday, against the Calangute police and DySP, Mr Raikar over the manner in which they handled the
case.
However, the morcha was put on hold when the North SP, Mr Borkar assured that by Wednesday action would be taken. Mr Sequeira said that if no action comes forth then they would go ahead with the agitation. [NT]
