SLEC for fisheries development formed

Panjim: The Government on Thursday constituted a State Level Steering Committee (SLEC), under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary (CS), for effective implementation, monitoring and timely intervention of the Blue Revolution Schemes.The Union Ministry of Agriculture, Department of Animal Husbandry Dairying and Fisheries, had initiated Blue Revolution: Integrated Management and Development of fisheries recognising the prospective future and potential in the fisheries sector and to unlock unused talent through an integrated approach.The committee, which has been formed, will attend to the policy issues enabling environment for growth of fisheries in the state.The functions of the SLEC shall be to discuss the status of fisheries development in the State to realise goals of Blue Revolution and review policy issues related to fisheries development.
The SLEC will have the overview of the State Action Plan (SAP) and review convergence of funds from other schemes and also funds transfer position to districts. It will also recommend proposals prepared by the State or SAP and review progress of the Blue Revolution projects.The programme will focus on creation of an enabling environment for development and management of fisheries for socio-economic development of fishers and fish farmers.However, there will be great emphasis on infrastructure and technology to increase productivity and income of fishers and fish farmers through employment of global innovations such as production of quality seeds, cost effective technologies.
