Snow’s FA enter semi-finals
Snow’s Football Academy, Raia entered the semi-finals of GFA’s U-16 football league when they scored an emphatic 3-0 victory against United Club of Utorda at Velsao Pale grounds on Sunday. It was a play-off match.
Clison Pereira turned out to be the hero of the Snow’s Academy team after scoring a fine brace, finding the mark in the 16th and 38th minute of play. The other goal was scored by Clide Travasso in the 55th minute of play who let go a powerful shot after beating three rival defenders.
At half time, Snow’s Academy were leading 2-0. Stephen Abranches and Samson Pereira played a leading role in carving out this big win for the Raia team which has remained unbeaten so far in this league. Snows now meet Betalbatim SC in the semi-finals
In the Ilhas zone, Portais Sporting Club, Panaji defeated Jawahar Club, Ponda 7-3 at Don Bosco School grounds, Panaji. Portais came well prepared for the match and scored at will in the opening half to lead 6-1 at the break.
Valery D’Souza opened the account for Portais in the 4th minute. Thereafter, Portais scored again through Larry Silveira in the 10th minute. Their third goal came in the 14th minute when Valery scored off a free-kick.
Jawahar got back in the match and reduced the margin through Valencio Fernandes who scored off a free kick from just outside the penalty area. Portais regrouped and buttressed their lead again through Valery, who notched a hat-trick.
Thereafter, Asner Afonso scored off a through pass from Kalpesh Kankonkar to make it 5-1 while Richard Fernandes scored the sixth goal, converting a corner-kick taken by Doming Nunes.
In the second half, Portais effected two substitutions. Jawahar fought back and scored 2 goals off the boots of Valencio Fernandes and Asif Sheikh in the 54th and 65th minute respectively, to make it 6-3. Ten minutes before the final whistle, Asner Afonso, who is Portais’ captain, drilled the final nail into his rival’s coffin off a solo run to round off the tally at 7-3.
