South tourist taxi woes discussed

The issue of the rift between tourist taxi operators and tour operators was discussed on Thursday in the chamber of the tourism minister in Porvorim to find a solution to the long-standing problem.

Speaking to Herald, Tourism Minister Deepak Parulekar said after today’s meeting that lasted for an hour, it was decided to call the main representatives from South Goa tourism sector and chalk out a solution which is acceptable to all.

The meeting amongst others was attended by Director of Tourism Nikhil Desai, South  Collector N D Agrawal, South SP Allen De Sa and TTAG President Francisco Braganza.

TTAG expressed that it was happy with some of the initiatives taken by the Government to better tourism and was hopeful that it would find a permanent solution to this long-standing face-off between tourist taxi operators and tour operators.

President TTAG Francisco Braganza said the problem doesn’t bode well for tourism in Goa and a permanent solution was needed to streamline the sector as a wrong signal was being sent to the world on the way tourism operates here. [H]
