South ZP chief Nelly calls for death penalty
Goa Panchayat Mahila Shakti Abhiyan and South Goa Zilla Chairperson Nelly Rodrigues had condemned the ghastly and beastly act of the six men who gang raped the 23-year old Delhi girl leading to her death.
In a statement, Nelly said she would write to the Prime Minister and Home Minister on behalf of GPMSA, a body of elected women of all Panchayats and Zilla Panchayats, Goa, that the perpetrators of the crime should be given life imprisonment or hanged to create a fear psychosis in the minds of men not to indulge in rapes and ensure safety of women.
She said all the elected women office bearers would meet in the GPMSA office for a condolence cum prayer service for the victim girl along with the ZP Members of South Goa. She said the elected representatives would chalk out a charter of demands to be given to the government so as to ensure stringent laws and speedy disposal of such cases by setting up fast track courts for speedy disposal of rape cases. The police role to register and deal strictly would also be deliberated and starting of additional Police Stations too was the need of the hour. [H]
