Special officer to strengthen ACB
A special officer has been posted in the disproportionate asset cell of the vigilance department, in order to strenghten the anti-corruption branch (ACB).
Assisted by a chartered accountant, the officer will investigate into cases of disproportionate assets filed against government officers.
Chief minister Manohar Parrikar announced this on the floor of Goa assembly on Monday.
Earlier, opposition members criticized the government over the functioning of the vigilance department and public grievance department.
Parrikar stated that the previous Digambar Kamat-led government had completely destroyed the vigilance and public grievance departments. None of the ministers of the previous government wanted the departments to work, he charged. The chief minister claimed that during that last 10 years, the vigilance received 22 complaints, of which 50% were received last year.
Replying to charges by Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco that Parrikar is working with the same officers he had criticized while he was opposition leader, Parrikar claimed these officers were now even do late duties. [TOI]
