Nagao, Sangolda Lightning qualify

Nagao Sports Club and Sangolda Lightning qualified for play-off while Saligao United and Milagres Sports Club were relegated as GFA 2nd Division League matches took place simultaneously at three venues, Monday.
Nagao Sports Club with 17 points and Sangolda Lightning with 15 points qualified for the play-off.
New entrants to this year’s second division league, Saligao United had a short run in the league as they were once again relegated back to the Third Division League, along with Milagres Sports Club.
At Sangolda grounds, Siolim Sodiem Sports Club fought gallantly to register a 1-0 win over Penha de Franca.
Siolim took the lead in the very 1st minute of play as Gopal Shirodkar after getting hold of a cross from Rupesh Madkar slammed it past the Penha keeper, 1-0.
As the match progressed Penha had at least three to four scoring opportunities, but Raju Padoshi was thwarted twice by the Siolim keeper Kewan D’Souza.
A minute before the breather, Siolim should have doubled their lead, but Pushparaj Mandrekar shot over the crosspiece, from a splendid cross by Shashank Ashwekar.
In the 73rd minute, Siolim keeper Kewan came with two superb saves to push the ball for a corner from a close quarter, shot by Pandurang Halankar and from the resultant corner Seby Rodrigues’ goal-bound cross was fisted to safety by the keeper.
Another chance went a begging for Penha de Franca as Hari Parab’s header off Seby Rodrigues was blocked by the keeper.
At Duler grounds, Mapusa, Nagao Sports Club registered a 4-2 winre over Milagres. Nagao surged ahead in the 13th minute as medio Savio Pereira sent a pass to Mansoor Khan who drilled the ball past Milagres keeper Manuel Viegas. Two minutes later, Bapu Pednekar made it 2-0 with a power-packed volley.
Milagres regrouped themselves and scored two quick goals through Atish Mirajkar (27th min) and Avito Fernandes (30th min) to make it 2-2.
However a minute before the breather Nagao’s Shubham Malvankar put his team ahead, 3-2. In the 90th minute, Shekar Deepi took a scorching right footer to round off the score tally to 4-2.
At Poriat grounds, Sangolda downed Saligao United by 4-0 margin. Yogesh Mayekar, Chandan Chandrashekar, Stevan Fernandes and Subodh Naik were the goal scorers. [NT]
