Panaji: Following the World Health Organisation’s risk assessment for the global spread of the novel Coronavirus (nCoV), the Directorate of Health Services (DHS), on Friday, issued an advisory asking the travellers to China to take precautionary measures to combat the virus that has killed 26 people.
“Travellers are requested to observe good personal hygiene, practice frequent handwashing with soap, follow respiratory etiquettes by covering the mouth during coughing or sneezing. Avoid close contact with people who are unwell or showing symptoms of illness such as cough, runny nose etc,” reads the note.
“Travellers should also avoid contact with live animals and consumption of raw and undercooked meats, avoid travel to farms, live animal markets or where animals are slaughtered and wear a mask if you have respiratory symptoms such as cough or runny nose. People should not spit in public, not to take medicine without consulting the doctors” it reads further.
The clinical signs and symptoms of the particular virus are mainly fever with a few patients having difficulty in breathing. The mode of transmission of the virus is unclear as of now. However, so far there is little evidence of significant human-to-human transmission. [NT]
