St Anthony’s edge past Navelim Sporting

St Anthony’s SC-Colva came from behind to enter the quarter-finals of Wilred Leisure Super Soccer when they registered a 2-1 victory against Navelim Sporting in an exciting pre-quarterfinal match played at DSYA grounds, Curtorim on Tuesday.
At half time the teams played a 1-1 draw.
It was Navelim Sporting that took the lead in the 6th minute of play when Alvito Colaco found the mark off Sanford Cardozo.
Colva did not take much time to restore parity as Ryan Fernandes scored off a Ronny Fernandes pass in the 12th minute.
Colva found the match-winner in the second session through Jesus Cardozo who scored when Johnson Quadros laid a through pass to him.
Navelim took the Colva team by surprise quite early when Alvito Colaco beat Colva keeper Joel Pereira giving him no chance at all.
Within 6 minutes, Colva retaliated and restored parity when the Navelim keeper Belvin Costa had no chance to stop Ryan Fernandes.
The proceedings of the first half were played at a hot pace with both the teams vying with each other for supremacy.
Both the teams preferred to keep the ball low and did spread it well all over the playing arena. Most of the dangerous moves were initiated through both the flanks by both the teams as the midfielders on either side put up a very good show of supplying the ball well to the forwards.
The goalkeepers of both the teams as such had a busy time. While Colva keeper Joel Pereira brought off smart saves in the first half of play, his counterpart guarding the Navelim Sporting goal did not lag behind and also brought off equally smart saves.
But as the pressure mounted Navelim defence crumbled, allowing Jesus Cardozo to snatch the match -winner in favour of the Colva team. All the attempts of Navelim team to find the mark again proved futile. [NT]
