The Diocesan Centre for Social Communications Media, Goa, has made arrangements to make some of the services during the novena days of preparation for the feast of St Francis Xavier available through video live stream on the Archdiocesan website
The 6 a.m, 8.15 a.m and 3.45 p.m novenas are telecast live daily. Besides on the feast day the High Mass – at 10.30 a.m – with Archbishop Anil Couto, Bishop of Jullundur as the main celebrant too will be transmitted live.
The inter-religious meeting at 10.30 a.m on November 29 will also be transmitted live.
This year too the feast day will have a mass in Spanish.
The saint hailed from Navarre, in Spain’s Basque region and propagated Christianity in Goa. After his death in 1552 – in China – his body was ferried to Malacca, Malaysia. His body was brought to Goa – still in a preserved state – and is at present kept at Basilica of Bom Jesus. People venerate it as a miracle as the saint’s body has not decomposed for nearly five hundred years.
Every year lakh of people come to Old Goa from all over the world for the feast. [NT]
