Sudin hopes to bring Gadkari to Goa to hear mining dependents’ woes

Panjim: PWD Minister and Cabinet Advisory Committee (CAC) member Ramkrishna (Sudin) Dhavalikar on Monday assured the mining dependents that he will try and get Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari and Narendra Singh Tomar to Goa so that the people can raise their grievances. The minister also appealed to the mining dependents to wait till March 31 before taking any drastic steps.“I am going to Delhi to meet officials at the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH) tomorrow (Tuesday). I will also speak to Gadkari on Goa mining issue and try and urge him and Mines Minister Tomar to visit Goa to listen to the grievances of the mining dependents,” Dhavalikar said.He added, “The government is committed and I appeal to Goans who want to agitate over the mining issue to wait till March 31 before taking any further steps. The mining dependents are free to agitate after March 31 if no solution is found.”
Mining dependents who met the PWD Minister urged that he should intervene in the matter and ensure that mining operations continue even after March 16 in the interest of Goa.“The recent judgement of the Supreme Court has left us all in a state of panic and anxiety as the future is uncertain. The cancellation of mining leases is a huge blow for the mining industry and has left lakhs facing an uncertain future,” South Goa Progressive Truck Owners Association secretary Satyawan Goankar said.Goankar added, “All of us will be left with no viable livelihood option in case mines shut down from March 16. Many people in the village are indirectly earning their livelihood from mining.”The mining dependents during the meeting said that if the government is adamant in auctioning the leases then the existing 123 leases which were cancelled by the Supreme Court can be kept enforced by bringing an ordinance to continue operations for the next five years.
