Sudin questions Cong’s right to speak on Opinion Poll

Panjim: Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) leader Ramkrishna (Sudin) Dhavalikar on Wednesday said that the Congress has no right to speak on the Opinion Poll celebrations and questioned why their former chief minister had not celebrated the 25th anniversary of Opinion Poll.He was reacting to statements made by former chief minister Ravi Naik who had mocked the celebration of Opinion Poll day saying it was artificial.
“Congress leaders themselves did not celebrate 25th anniversary of the Opinion Poll and were not allowing others also to celebrate the anniversary now by raising different issues,” Dhavalikar said.He added that the Opinion Poll should not be politicised and there are many people who worked for it other than Dr Sequeira and claimed that many persons involved in the Opinion Poll movement were opposed to the Goa freedom struggle.Dhavalikar suggested that a 2 lakh sq metre garden be developed where statues of those who fought for freedom and the Opinion Poll be erected along with information so that tourists and students can visit and learn some history.
