Tanvi Vargaonkar bags triathlon gold for Goa
PANAJI: Goa’s Tanvi Vargaonkar clinched triathlon gold on the second day of the 28th National Junior Athletics Championships being held at Lucknow, on Sunday.
Thirteen-year-old Tanvi has earlier won two gold – one in the long jump and the other in the triathlon – at the West Zone meet this year besides winning a silver in the triathlon at the 24th National Inter-Zone championship. Last year she had bagged bronze at the Junior National championships, and also gold in the triathlon and silver in the long jump at the West Zone meet.
Tanvi, a class VIII student of Jesus & Mary Convent, has been coached Vrunda Vernekar.
About 1747 athletes in eight age group categories are vying for top honours in 125 events on the track and field events which are held on the synthetic surface of Guru Govind Singh Sports College in Lucknow. [NT]
