Thieves strike at Sahakar Bhandar, run off with safe
Unidentified culprits broke into the departmental store of the GoaSahakarBhandar at Curchorem in the wee hours of Tuesday and made off with the safe containing cash and gold and silver coins, all worth Rs 1.53lakh.
The store is run by the Goa Cooperative Marketing and Supply Federation. It is just metres away from the Curhorem police station.
The incident is believed to have occurred between 2.30am and 3am and came to light when a police team on night patrol duty noticed the shutter of the store open.
Police sources said the thieves entered by bending the store's rolling shutters. They further said that the safe was in a cabin on the mezannine floor and the accused could have fled with it on failing to open it. [TOI]
